Stem cell research is creating controversy worldwide and has become one of the most widely publicised scientific discoveries of the decade.

Stem cells are cells known as ‘master cells’ in that they are able to form different tissues within the body, including tissues that do not normally regenerate. The stem cells which are capable of growing and forming new limbs or organs are called embryonic stem cells, and of course this is the whole attraction of this new scientific technology.

Adult stem cells is a term meaning stem cells which are in the body after birth. Embryonic stem cells are stem cells from embryos which have not developed into a specific cell type. Embryonic stem cells may and can develop genetic abnormalities, however this is not the case with adult stem cells.

The lure of this goal and the benefits to our health continues to lead to ethical issues such as embryo harvesting and cloning with good reason.

Our bodies do contain stem cells and they are released naturally from the bone marrow. With age the process slows down, and the stem cells are not released as they should be. When this happens the body is no longer as sufficient at healing and repairing itself as before.

As stem cells are the only known way to restore lost or degraded cells in the body the technology is emerging into two areas, stem cell enhancement and tissue replacement.
With stem cell enhancement ways are looked at to use the master cells which are normally in the body more effectively because these cells can be used with out the problem of rejection.

Stem cells have been successfully used to form for example new corneas to restore sight, new cartilage, and to repair damage following heart attacks. They are being used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, leukaemia, Parkinson’s disease, and even AIDS.

One thing is a certainty, stem cell controversy is here to stay.

    Immediate Toothache Relief

Needing immediate toothache relief is something we all hope never to experience, but all too often, it strikes without warning even though you may be conscientious with your dental hygiene.

The pain is excruciating, and when it strikes you will do almost anything to relieve the pain. Of course the first thing you must do to get help with toothache is to make an emergency appointment with your dentist, but between now and then, you need advice on how to deal with and minimise the pain.

Fortunately, there are ways to get relief through the use of natural herbal remedies or across the counter pharmaceutical products.

Herbal remedies should be used in tincture form. The benefit of this is the alcohol in the tincture will help disinfect the immediate area around the toothache, help reduce inflammation, and fight any infection. A typical tincture dose is around 5mls (teaspoon) and is used to swill around the mouth in the area of the toothache.

One of the best across the counter products to use is Ambesol. It is rubbed onto the affected area to kill the pain.

Another effective method is to use a solvent aspirin tablet by popping it into your mouth and holding the tablet against the problem tooth with your tongue, and allowing it to dissolve. Okay, you may not enjoy the taste, but it is preferable to the pain. The dissolving aspirin will work its way into the nerve of the tooth and relieve the pain.

Of course depending on how deep the cavity, or how extensive the abscess, these methods of pain relief can only be temporary in nature, and when they start working you should not put off seeking professional help from your dentist.

Cosmetic Surgery Procedures - Which Surgeon Should I See?

Cosmetic surgery clinics are open to give patients many options for improving their looks and health. People get cosmetic surgery for a variety of reasons. Procedures like facial surgeries, tummy tucks, and breast surgeries are available at most Cosmetic surgery clinics.

There are several different surgeries that cosmetic surgery clinics perform on people’s faces. The classic facelift is designed to create a more youthful look to the face and neck. It improves sagging around the middle of the face. A cosmetic surgery clinic facelift will make deep creases between the nose and mouth and under the eyelids seem to disappear. It also helps eliminate jowly and fatty look in the lower face.

Eyelid surgery is another choice at cosmetic surgery clinics. It not only firms up drooping, sagging skin for appearance’s sake. It is also a health issue for many people, since cutting excess skin from their upper eyelids allows them to see better.

Nose surgery is another procedure done at surgery clinics that can have consequences for both appearance and health. Some people have trouble breathing because their nasal passages are not correctly formed. Nose surgery helps these people, as well as people who just do not like the looks of their noses.

Many people like to get injectable fillers to help plump up their lips or erase small wrinkles or scars on their faces. This is a relatively simple procedure, with fat usually taken from the abdomen or thigh. Skin resurfacing can also be done to give the face a better look. Lasers and pulsed light are used.

Tummy tucks are available at clinics around the Country. Some of the abdominal fat and skin are removed. The abdominal wall is tightened as well. A lesser version of the tummy tuck is liposuction. In this case, there is no skin to be removed and the abdominal wall is still intact.

Many people want to have breast procedures done. Some of these procedures are done because one feels one will feel more attractive when it is done. Others are done to correct actual flaws or surgical losses.

Breast augmentation is for women who feel that their breasts are too small. They want fuller breasts that balance out the proportions of their figure. They have the surgery to improve their self-image and confidence. Implants are pre-filled or filled during surgery to get just the right size.

People may go to cosmetic surgery clinics for a breast lift. This is a procedure in which extra skin is removed, the nipple is raised into place, and the breast tissue is tightened. It can also reduce areolas that have become too large over time.

Men who have enlarged breasts suffer from a problem called gynecomastia. This is an embarrassing and uncomfortable condition. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery can correct this problem and help men to feel better about their bodies.

Many people want to improve their bodies. Cosmetic surgery doctors are ready and able to perform these procedures. One only needs to check out the credentials of the doctor. Then, one can follow the advice of the doctor in getting the work accomplished.
