Studies have shown that children who have a good breakfast before heading out to school generally performed better in the classroom.
Sometimes this can be a challenge, because if you have two adults and two children trying to get out the door first thing in the morning, it can be quite a stressful experience, especially if you only have one bathroom.
So how do you win with both situations?
Here are some less stress at breakfast tips.
1. Get everything ready the night before so it just has to be lifted. If possible set everything out in another room. (Remember any Games or PE bag required?) The same with the breakfast cereals - have the table set and everything covered with clingfilm before retiring to bed.
2. Have the next day’s clothes ready in one place the night before.
3. Everyone takes a full shower the night before, and only a quick refresher shower in the morning .
4. Get up 15 minutes earlier than normal. Most people get into a routine of just managing the minimum number of minutes possible before they have to leave the house, which results in everybody running round trying to get things done quickly and getting in each other’s way. A little extra leeway time wise eases everyone stress levels first thing in the morning, and the luxury of a little extra time at the breakfast table pays great dividends later during the day.
5. Have healthy small items of food readily available in the kitchen so they can be lifted if needed.
6. Consider using a small ‘to go’ food pack which your children can continue eating on the way the school.
These are really all just common sense measures which will make everyone’s morning a lot more pleasant.
